Client Policies & Forms
Policies and Procedures
Our first session together is focused on understanding the situation and gathering some historical information about the individuals involved. Therefore, all initial sessions are scheduled at 1½ hours. Subsequent sessions are typically one hour long. The frequency of sessions are based on your needs. There is a twenty-four hour cancellation policy. Exceptions are made only for illnesses or emergencies.
Initial phone consultations for investigating services are complimentary. Therapeutic phone consultations exceeding 15 minutes are billed at the normal hourly rate.
Confidentiality
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission. Exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse, dependent adult abuse or elder abuse, as I am required by law to report these to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person or persons, I am required by law to notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist the client’s cooperation in ensuring his/her safety. If s/he does not cooperate, the law provides for further measures I may take without the client’s permission in order to ensure his/her safety.
